Snow White’s Final Spin

Well, today is the day. It’s no news that in sort of an “Extreme Makeover Attraction Edition” fashion, Snow White’s Scary Adventures is going to be dismantled and torn apart (it sounds so harsh) to make room for Princess Fairytale Hall in 2013. (In ways, I’m reminded of how sad I felt when the original Yankee Stadium was torn down for the newer one.) Sure, I’m excited about the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train — like very excited — but I’m still going to miss some classic Snow White fun. (Not to mention, if I was a kid… there is no way my mom would have gone on Mine Train and we always were able to do Snow White as a family so there’s that…)

It’s funny the things we take for granted. I’ve been looking through all my pictures from my many years of traveling to WDW and have very few Snow White Scary Adventures photos to show for it. And that’s a total shame because it was a ride I always looked forward to and we always were sure to jump on.

(Isn’t it weird how it took 24 years for Disney to tone down the frightfulness of SWSA and a few months to do the same with Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom? Not that I agree with either of these changes. Scary is never SCARY. It’s kind of Haunted Mansion scary.)

I thought it would be nothing short of appropriate to share a few pictures of SWSA from my own trips. Sadly, my husband and I will just miss catching the tail end of the attraction’s operation… arriving about a week too late to give it one more ride. November 2011 was actually the final time we boarded those hand-carved little cars and zipped through Snow White’s story.

This was always one of the hardest attractions to get pictures on… it moved so quickly and it was dark!

(That’s my hair in the second picture.)

One of the commenters on the Disney Parks Blog had a great idea that I hope is taken into consideration: paying homage to SWSA by placing something from the attraction in the new Princess Fairytale Hall. I love this idea.

I can’t think of a nicer gesture.

aw this makes me a bit sad! I don’t even remember the last time I rode this ride but now wish I could ride it one more time. It makes me want to hop over to WDW to say goodbye!
