Muppet Monday: A Boy & His Toys

It’s not everyday you find an awesome Muppet book.

In the past year, since I’ve started Muppet Mondays, I’ve gotten into the habit of buying any book I see on the subject. Because a) I want to learn b) they have pretty pictures c) Why not start a Muppet book collection?

Sometimes, though, this means children’s books.

At a Muppet event last summer, I bought this beauty:

The Guy Who Played with Puppets / This Happy Place Blog

It’s Jim Henson: The Guy Who Played with Puppets by Kathleen Krull. The highlight of this book is definitely the illustrations, which are paintings by Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher. As a kid, I always loved the illustrations in my books and as an adult, it’s no different. Any of the paintings incorporated in this book could easily be framed and hung on a wall.

Author Kathleen Krull makes Jim’s story very approachable and simple but entertaining and relatable as well.

Here are a few of my favorite illustrations:

Aren’t they amazing? I love how Frank Oz got into the last one!

Not only did the artists get Jim’s likeness down but I love the use of bright colors — because that is what the Muppets are about.

Best of all, the book begins with this quote:

When I was young, my ambition was to be one of the people who made a difference in this world.

I think that’s a great way to start a Monday morning, don’t you?
