I feel like I could fly!
I was happy to read that Dick Van Dyke would be receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in January 2012.
I’ve always been a sucker for award shows and it’s always exciting when someone you know receives an award.
I’ve always known Dick Van Dyke best as the handsome and crafty Bert in Mary Poppins. I loved how he was able to show such a range in the movie… serious to funny to charming …even transforming into an old man in one scene.
More than likely you’ve seen the Mary Poppins clips a bunch of times so here’s a great clip from Dick’s appearance on the Rosie O’Donnell Show.
As a kid, I loved her show so much because she had such a passion for Broadway and it was basically the only way I saw these performances. Anyway, she pays homage to her guest by performing songs from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mary Poppins.
Isn’t that adorable? It makes me smile so much!
Congrats to Mr. Van Dyke!
A quick sidenote: has anyone read his recent memoir? It’s been on my to-read but I haven’t taken it out of the library yet!
