I’m excited to share my eBay Epcot treasure today!
Mickey and Goofy Explore the Universe of Energy comic!

I’ll admit that the Universe of Energy pavilion isn’t a must stop for me. I never feel like I have 45 minutes to dedicate to an attraction that hasn’t changed since 1996. (Ellen has much better hair and some great dance moves now!) Not to mention, energy conservation and “being green” have evolved so much in 16 years.
It was interesting to read through this comic as so much of what Mickey was educating Goofy about is so relevant today (in fact, as I write this we have the first presidential debate on our television and they are discussing conservation and such). Not to mention, this comic is entirely educational except for the little bit of humor when Goofy injects some cheesy puns. (This does not mean I’m not stealing a few of them.)
Mickey is quite the professor throughout these few pages, and I imagine many kinds would find it very dry and spend most of the time just looking at the pictures. But hey, that’s just me.
Here are a few snippets:

(Can you tell this was published in 1985? Later the cost of gas goes up to $1.27! How much would we love that today?)

I like Mickey’s face here.

Mickey and Goofy head to Alaska and talk about drilling.

I could only find a fact for 2004, but Mickey is right about the 1/5. What a mouse!

Nice to see “Epcot Center” mentioned in name at the end… with another joke from Goofy, of course.
Despite the lack of balance between education and entertainment in this “comic”, it’s still a great keepsake. I would love to see something like this back in the parks. It would be even nicer if Universe of Energy could find a new sponsor (ExxonMobil left in 2004.) and this attraction was brought into the present.

Thanks for posting this; I’ve heard of this comic book, but never really seen what it looked like until now.
Disney should go retro and totally redo Universe of Energy to actually use Micky and Goofy as hosts. I’d love to see Goofy running from the dinosaurs!

Oh wow! I had that comic after I visited EPCOT Center in 1984. I love the panel where Goofy keeps his car tires soft for a nice cushy ride.
I wonder what happened to my copy…
