Hello Everyone! Welcome to Wednesday or what Estelle and I like to call:
I know that most blogs have christened today as ‘Wordless Wednesdays’, but we thought we would take this opportunity to give a nod of appreciation to the man behind the magic. Everyone knows it all started with a mouse, but how many people know the story behind the man who invented the mouse? Every Wednesday, I’ll be posting pictures, facts, and tidbits about one of the most innovative visionaries of the 20th century.
For our first Walt Wednesday, I’d like to share the quote that inspired this website. It was in his opening speech at the unveiling of Disneyland in 1955 as seen below:
“To all who come to this happy place – welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, dreams and the hard facts that have created America … with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.”
This quote was so eloquent in expressing Walt’s hope for Disneyland that the first line was actually repeated in every dedication speech thereafter for Walt Disney World, Paris, Hong Kong and Tokyo. What is it about this world of make-believe that continues to entrance people of all ages? One reason maybe due to the fact that over the years, the Disney Theme Parks have become cultural landmarks. They’re also places where new technology and innovation flourishes in every field. Trying to imagine a world without the lovable characters, unforgettable songs, and magical places that Walt and his colleagues created is, for many of us, like trying to imagine a life without a childhood. It’s rare that one person can be responsible for changing the status quo of their time and in doing so, immeasurably shape the world we now know.
But as my pal Mickey likes to say, “Some imagination, huh?”
