Muppet Monday: Somebody Bake a Cake!

They’re back!

I don’t know about you but I really missed writing and researching this particular feature. The first official Muppet Monday since the relaunch is going to be a bit personal because well, I took the day off from work today and I’m off frolicking in the Hamptons on a winter day, and because it’s my first wedding anniversary. So how better to celebrate then with one of my favorite songs from one of my ultimate favorite Muppet movies…

Did you guess? Well, it’s “Somebody’s Getting Married” from The Muppets Take Manhattan.

We actually sang this quite a bit during the “getting ready” stages on my actual wedding day. And since then I post the video on people’s Facebook pages when it is their own big day. What’s more monumental than sharing your day with Kermit and Miss Piggy? (Who really only getting married in their Broadway musical, Manhattan Melodies, and not in real life. Sadface.)

Highlights from this particular scene:

  • The penguins working in the tux shop.
  • How quick Kermit & Piggy can plan this shindig.
  • Scooter’s cardigan.
  • Anybody else concerned those wedding cakes may be lobster flavored?
  • The Sesame Street gang!

Music and lyrics from The Muppets Take Manhattan were written by Jeff Moss, who also wrote “Rubber Ducky.” Genius! He was nominated for his work on this Muppet film, but (sigh) lost.

In addition, this film jumpstarted the career of the Muppet Babies (how cute is that scene) and was also Frank Oz’s first solo gig as a director.

I won’t take it personally if you don’t have this movie in your collection but to make it easier, here’s the fine product on Amazon.

Hope you all have a great Monday!

  1. I sang this song ALL the time when I was getting married too. This is my all time favorite Muppet movie. Probably because it’s the first one I remember seeing as a child!
