Last month, it was announced that New York City had recruited the Muppets to convince families to visit the Big Apple for their entertainment, dining, and shopping needs. This is the fourth consecutive year of the Family Ambassador program; other celebrity ambassadors have been Dora the Explorer, Sesame Street, and The Smurfs.
In celebration of their new role, the NYC website is going to feature the Muppets in several places around the city.
Before that happens, I thought it would be fun to guess which hot spots our Muppets might like the most.
Kermit: Since Kermit grew up in the swamp, I think he would feel most at home hanging out where there is a little bit of nature in the concrete jungle. Central Park it is! It’s very green, so it’s his color for sure. When I recently hung out near the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park, there were tons of people out in rowboats (and even a proposal). I could easily see Kermit hanging out there with his banjo striking up a tune or two.
Miss Piggy: Miss Piggy is going to see the city in style. She always has to look her best but will want to make the littlest effort possible to get around. No taxis or subways for this pig. Nope, she will be chauffeured around in a limo checking out only the best of shopping sights. Saks, Tiffany’s, Louis Vuitton, Henri Bendel, Gucci, Escada, Fendi… if she has some time, I’m sure she’ll take a few hours to sail around with Kermit in Central Park. But really, it’s all about the shopping. And staying at The Plaza, New York’s most exciting hotel experience. (Sound familiar?)
Fozzie: I would love for Fozzie to be headlining his own comedy show. If you walk around Times Square, you know how many little places feature comedy shows. But I want Fozzie IN Times Square trying to get people to go to other comedy shoes. I think it might be pretty awesome. I can only imagine the kind of lengths he would go to to get people to pay attention to him.
Rowlf: During the day, I’d like to see Rowlf take over the giant piano at FAO Schwartz, sort of Tom Hanks style. At night, I see him at a classy joint playing tunes like Billy Joel’s Piano Man.
Pepe the King Prawn: I have a soft spot for Pepe. He’s such a funny, romantical kind of guy. And what better place to feel like the King of New York City (other than starring in Newsies) than hanging out at the Empire State Building. Just think of how many ladies he can romance up there. (Another Tom Hanks/Sleepless in Seattle reference!)
How do you think my guesses measure up to the Muppets?
