TheatEAR Newsflash: 10/8/2012

Not so much going on in the Disney theater world at the moment, but a few snippets you should know!

It was announced last week that Peter and the Starcatcher, the play based on how a boy became the Peter Pan we all know, is closing on January 20, 2013.

While I’m bummed the show won’t be around forever, the good news is there’s still time for you to catch it, and I hope that you do. (Also, a national tour kicks off in August in Denver so it might be coming to a theater near you soon!)

For those of you who attend a Wednesday evening show in the next two weeks, they are offering some awesome talk back series opportunities! (How I wish these were open to the public!) Sandy Duncan (the focus of a recent Muppet Monday) and Rick Elice (playwright) will be hanging out on October 10 and October 17, respectfully, to chat post-show with the audience.

Even though Peter and the Starcatcher is billed as a play, there are a few musical numbers in the show. I’m happy to see that the cast has been offered the chance to take part in Carols for a Cure, a two-disk album of holiday songs (well-known and original) sung by the companies of various shows. The money earned from the album goes toward Broadway Cares.  No release date yet for this year’s album, or even knowledge of what song the Peter cast was asked to sing but there are some pictures! (Check out copies from previous years here.)

Peter and the Starcatcher records for Carols for a Cure, 2012.

Can’t wait to get my hands on a copy! (Especially since the Newsies cast will make be making an appearance on it as well!)

…what a Peter-centric post!

Just a quick note for Newsies: John Dossett who plays the evil Joe Pulitzer will be out from 10/9 to 12/16, and Rob Raines will be assuming the role. (He was recently in the Follies revival, which I saw and loved!)

Anyone see any shows lately?
