Broadway Ladies Sing Disney

FRIDAY! We made it!

I’ve been a huge Broadway kick lately (see yesterday’s post) and will be heading back to the theater this weekend to see a new play (The Performers).

To gear up, here are a few talented Broadway ladies who have not only graced the stages here in NYC but also have some ties to Disney.

Enjoy!

Eden Espinosa actually worked at Disneyland and Universal before heading to New York for roles in Brooklyn, Rent, and Wicked. (Love, love, love.) In 2009, she was the featured soloist during Disneyland’s summer fireworks called “Magical”.

Currently, Eden is putting together a pop-ish Broadway album! (Can’t wait for that!)

Kerry Butler made her Broadway debut in 1993 but her Disney roots started up in Canada, where she originated the role of Belle in the Toronto production of Beauty and the Beast. Later she originated the role of Penny in the original production of Hairspray on Broadway. Afterwards, she starred in Little Shop of Horrors, Xanudu and more. For a bit of Muppet trivia… she is married to Joey Mazzarino, who helped with the screenplay for Muppets in Space and does a ton of work with Sesame Street.

In 2008, she released an album (Faith Trust and Pixie Dust) made up of her favorite Disney songs, including one track that was voted for by the fans.

(This is probably one of the most awkward introductions ever, by the way.)

And last but certainly not least, a lady you probably know! Anika Noni Rose, the gorgeousย lady who gives Princess Tiana a voice. She’s a Tony award winning actress who originated a role in Caroline or Change. (She recently played Taye Diggs’ sister on Private Practice too.) Here she is singing at the Disney Legends ceremony in 2011:
