Goofy Friends at Animal Kingdom’s Restaurantosaurus

Last week, I promised Safari Mike at Jambo Everyone an Animal Kingdom-esque post.

Here’s one of my favorites.

When Animal Kingdom first opened, before the Tusker House character breakfast, my family would always book a breakfast at Restaurantosaurus in Dinoland U.S.A. The buffet breakfast was in what looked like a trailer, and most of the characters wore “country” costumes or dinosaur t-shirts. (They also played an endless loop of “It’s the End of the World as We Know It” by R.E.M. playing outside.)

One particular visit in 1999 stands out… when Goofy seemed to have a little crush on me and tried to make a place for him in our family.

I was always pretty shy around characters because, let’s face it, I was an awkward teenager and the characters were for the kids a.k.a my sister. But every now and then there was one who got me out of my shell. (I pretty much resembled Eeyore back then.)

Look! He actually made me smile. (The reason why my mom did not stop clicking away.)

It was too soon to think I was rid of him because Goofy usurped my mom’s seat (poor lady) and decided to help us set the table before our meal. Clearly, sitting down to breakfast with an over-sized Goof was so normal for us… my sister is the only one who looks a little shocked. But she was young and not as worldly as we were! (I’m rolling my eyes.)

We went on to enjoy a lovely meal (I remember liking their eggs a lot) while Goofy left to make friends with other families.

…I guess I didn’t mean that much after all.

Off-topic question: Why couldn’t Goofy just wear a dinosaur themed wardrobe as well? His choice seems awfully confusing…
