Editor’s Note: It’s St. Patrick’s Day and the week of Muppets Most Wanted’s official release — so we are celebrating in a huge way with Scott from Beers and Ears. He’s using his beer prowess to pair the Muppets with what beers he thinks they would be drinking. I am so psyched about this post and you hope you enjoy it. I’m a big fan of Beers and Ears, and it’s so wonderful to welcome Scott here today!
If you’ve been to Beers and Ears lately, you may have noticed my new series (of one article until today) about which beers Disney characters would drink. Since it’s Muppet March/Muppet Madness, here’s my take on what some of the Muppets’ favorite beers are.
Let’s start with the boss.
For Kermit, I could really take the easy way out…
I think Kermit has a bit more personality than those frogs though. Since Kermit is from Paradise Swamp just outside of Walt Disney World (at least according to The Muppets at Walt Disney World), he probably enjoys a Florida Beer Co. Swamp Ape IPA to wash down all those fried bugs.
Weird is something that’s surprisingly easy to find in the beer world. The Great Gonzo might go for a Rogue Voodoo Doughnut Chocolate, Peanut Butter and Banana Ale. Or how about another Rogue oddity: Beard Beer, brewed from a strain of yeast found in their brewmaster’s beard? Needless to say, Gonzo’s probably a Rogue fan.
It’s pretty obvious Miss Piggy isn’t a fan of rauchbier, which can have a smoky bacon flavor.
With Miss Piggy’s love for sweets, she probably goes for something rich like Young’s Double Chocolate Stout. Maybe even as a chocolate stout float with ice cream.
Much like when Fozzie mistakenly thought everyone was talking about him instead of Gonzo’s teddy bear in an early episode of The Muppet Show, Fozzie mistakenly thinks Bear Republic was named for him. Big Bear Black Stout is his favorite, but he also thinks Racer 5 is being sold outside of Test Track in tribute to him rather than fitting into the Test Track area.
With so many Muppets, this could go on for a very long time. Perhaps I’ll do a part 2 one day. I didn’t even get to my favorite Muppet, the Swedish Chef. Whose beer preferences would you like to know more about?
